It starts off with 1kg of clay for both the top and bottom of the lamp. Thrown on the potters wheel they are left to dry overnight and trimmed, smoothed and fitted together the next day. It's during this process that the fit is adjusted and the correct diameter holes are drilled for the light socket and integrated switch. As they slowly dry in the studio they are shuffled around so they can dry evenly.

After a couple of weeks they are loaded into the kiln and fired to 2160 degrees fahrenheit. The lamps are then removed and bottoms sanded smoothed. Each piece is handmade and thus there may be small differences piece to piece. Glaze is applied by hand with a brush, each piece will be unique because of this. The glaze color goes from a black to a deep brown. We tried to capture that as best we could in the pictures.
